Infrastructure Projects for Potential Bond Measure

Give feedback on the infrastructure projects that are most important to you to fund through a potential bond measure.

Help the City understand which infrastructure projects matter most to our community. Projects under consideration include sidewalk repairs, community center renovations, and improvements to fire stations and other facilities.

Your input will help create a list of priority projects included in a potential bond measure that could be on the ballot in 2026.

Proposed projects

The City of Berkeley maintains 300+ miles of sidewalks, 54 parks, 95 buildings, and so much more. With $1.65-$2 billion in unfunded infrastructure and deferred maintenance, the need is great and resources are limited. Help identify the highest priority projects.

Read a sample of proposed projects organized by theme below. For complete details, view the full infrastructure project list.

Community facilities and quality of life

Berkeley’s parks and community centers provide access to the outdoors, healthy recreation, play, and gathering with neighbors.

Proposed projects include:

  • Frances Albrier Community Center: Replace aging facility with seismically safe, modern building that is large enough to meet community needs
  • King Pool and locker room: Replace locker room and pool with larger 25-meter pool
  • Adeline Corridor open space: Four new or expanded open spaces along Adeline, south of Ashby
  • Dog parks: 4-6 new dog parks citywide
  • Park upgrades: Improvements to Codornices, Glendale La Loma, Harrison, Cedar Rose, Cesar Chavez Parks
  • Waterfront improvements: Projects to mitigate the effects of sea level rise, replace docks, build a new bike park

Public safety

Facilities used by the Fire and Police Departments help ensure staff are properly trained, equipped, and able to respond quickly in emergencies.

Proposed projects include:

  • 911 dispatch center: Expand and modernize to meet rising call volumes
  • Fire stations 4 and 6: Replace stations with expanded facilities to meet demand
  • Fire training center: New training facility to meet operational needs

Critical facilities and accessibility

City buildings house services such as the animal shelter, mental health, public health, senior center, permit service center, and City offices. Accessibility improvements and sidewalk repair ensures safe travel for all.

Proposed projects include:

  • Sidewalk repair: Shared-cost 50/50 program to repair lifted and damaged sidewalks
  • City facilities: Modernization of City offices, Public Safety Center, Animal Shelter
  • Civic center upgrades: Seismic improvements for Maudelle Shirek and Veterans Memorial Buildings
  • ADA improvements: Citywide fixes to ensure access for people with disabilities

investing in infrastructure

From sidewalks to community centers to fire stations, City infrastructure supports a connected, healthy, resilient community. Investments in infrastructure help prevent closures, service loss, and higher costs.

Past investment in infrastructure through Measure T1 has revitalized parks, playgrounds, roadways, and sidewalks. With T1 funding fully allocated, future projects have limited funding options. A potential bond measure could fund the most urgent community needs.
